Look into the “G-Drive” range by Hitachi too if you want well built, well designed and reliable external drive solutions. They cost a little more, but they’re? well worth it for a professional grade solution.

    Wauw… Long? conservation :P

I don’t like Seagate drives. Had to many fail just way to fast. There external Drives have just plain BAD design. No proper airflow. I am sticking to Western Digital for my External HDDs
Have a 2Tb USB 3.0 WD. it is benefited because my drive under performs on USB 2.0 (about 60MB/s) and its worth the? extra gain switching to 3.0. Firewire 800 will probably be the best for a External HDD in my opinion.

I just? looking for a simple external storage device like:
i just want to format then store some movie i have to maybe watch later and use fraps to record some game, right now i am using a simple WD passport 250GB(usb 2.0 i think) but its already getting full and i cant use to record fraps.

    what do you recommend?

  7. rahmanroni says:

The point is that USB 3 sucks at transferring large amounts certain types of data. Thunderbolt is optimize to act almost exactly like SATA, thunderbolt can provide up to 15 watts of power to the drive (external adapter not needed) and you can daisy chain 6 of these drives or any other devices. Just because you don’t have a use for it or haven’t discovered one out of ignorance, doesn’t? mean its useless.

  8. cliffjumpingisfun says:

could i hook? any external hdd to that dongle thingy?

  9. C00lman555 says:

Well, do all? apple users have the latest apple product?

  10. carbonunit says:

I? thought the new macs support usb 3.o?

  11. MrOctopi says:

USB 3 does not respond well to multiple, smaller files being transferred at once. Thunderbolt can handle that? much better.

thunderbolt 5:00 linus the? witch ……

  14. alex14469 says:

What is the point of Thunderbolt on average external Hard Drives, I mean USB 3 is capable of 5GBPS and I can’t thing of any mechanical drive that is capable of saturating HALF of that. As far as HDDs go, I see no point of paying the premium. With that said, I really like Seagate GoFlex,? I am using portable 1TB version, great drive. Thinking of buying second one.

They pretty much always keep your data… Apparently you can’t ever? delete it from your side, even if you “deactivate” everything remains on their server for a *long* time.

Shiny plastic, I hate that, it shows every single spec of dust, I don’t want to? keep it in a hospital in order to keep it clean.

  19. TrollSofter says:

Maybe so…..? but my point still stands.

Well, just in general. If I knew about the drive’s capabilities, and I saw someone? using it, if I had malicious intent I could easily access their personal data and information using the authentication provided within the drive.
