Door to Door Storage Assists in Recovery Efforts for Community Destroyed by 2011 Texas Wildfires

Kent, WA (PRWEB) March 20, 2012

Door to Door Storage, Inc. is providing long-term assistance to the community of Spicewood that was destroyed by the Labor Day 2011 Texas Wildfires. The company became involved early in the relief efforts as part of its Door to Door Cares: Texas Wildfire Relief program by donating 13 portable storage containers. In addition, employees have volunteered their time and a special deeply discounted storage pricing plan has been created for area residents. Spicewood was devastated when the fires burned 10 square miles in four days, turning the brick and limestone homes of hundreds of families to dust and completely destroying concrete slab foundations.

The assistance from Door to Door Storage? has been invaluable and we appreciate their commitment to help our community, said Pastor Tommy Wilborn, Chaplain of the Spicewood Fire Department and Chair of the Spicewood Long Term Recovery Committee (LTRC). “After the fires broke out, we were overwhelmed with contributed items and had no place to sort or store them. When Door to Door provided containers, this made it possible for us to continue helping dozens of families who had lost everything. We were able to store essential items including food, water and clothing needed by 189 individuals in the community.

Door to Door has donated the 13 storage containers at no cost to the community of Spicewood. With a collective capacity of 26,000 pounds, they provide relief workers the ability to efficiently manage the donated items. The company is also giving a special discounted storage promotion that is 50 percent less than its standard pricing and is waiving the normal contract length terms.

Door to Door brought containers out for us the same day we called. Travis Morrow, the local manager at Door to Door, promised he would help even though the delivery would take place after normal business hours, said Pastor Wilborn. “From 9 pm to midnight he worked with us to get the containers where they were needed most. The responsiveness of this company is not something you see every day and demonstrated to us how much they care.

Door to Door employees have also dedicated more than 1,000 volunteer hours to support the relief efforts of the people impacted by these devastating fires. The companys Texas Market Manager, Kevin Uselton, notes, We do more than just business in a community we serve, we are a part of it, and we want to help. Mr.Uselton serves on the Spicewood LTRC and has helped connect the Committee with the General Land Office (GLO) to discuss opportunities for relief funding. He has also helped to facilitate free flood certification for Spicewood and neighboring Bastrop County in an effort to ensure that residents have adequate insurance for future disasters as many of them were uninsured or underinsured when the wildfires broke out.

We are very involved in the communities we serve across the United States through our Door to Door Cares program, said Uselton. Our participation with Spicewood and the surrounding areas that were destroyed by the wildfires reflects our commitment to help those who are in need.
