FileTek Announces StorHouse Support for LTO-6 Tape Drives and Media

LTO-6 significantly increases tape capacity and data throughput capabilities over previous LTO versions for Big Data storage, backup, and active archive applications while providing encryption, WORM technology, and partitioning for Linear Tape File System (LTFS) functionality. For example, LTO-6 drives and cartridges can store 2.5 TB of data natively or 6.25 TB of compressed data and provide 160 MB/s native throughput per drive. When compared with previous generation LTO-5 technology, these numbers represent a 40% performance boost and more than double capacity (with compression).

When self storage companies and facilities join up with Charity Storage, one of the nicest aspects of the partnership is their ability to choose a favorite charity to receive 60 percent of the money raised through Charity Storage auctions. When StorageMart recently decided to join in the industry-wide movement to support Charity Storage, it had a terrific organization to support Women in Need, Inc. Now, thanks to money raised through upcoming Charity Storage auctions, New York City women and their families who are homeless and disadvantaged will have a better chance to improve their conditions.

Women In Need, Inc. will not be the only winner to come out of Charity Storage auctions held at StorageMart facilities. Kure It Cancer Research and the Self Storage Associations Foundation Scholarship program also will benefit from the special Charity Storage auctions held at facilities across the country. All of which is especially heartwarming to Sarah Little, Interactive Marketing Director with StorageMart.

Partnering with Charity Storage is a perfect fit for StorageMarts vision of community support, says Little. We selected Women In Need, Inc. (WIN) as our select charity for our New York self storage properties because this organization meets a very real need in our community. We learned that 80 per cent of the homeless in NYC are women and children. Once we were aware of that fact, it was no question WIN was the group we had to support.

The net proceeds from the sale of each unit at a Charity Storage auction are split three ways — the Self Storage Association Foundation (which provides scholarships to students who are related to self storage professionals or work at self storage facilities) receives 10 percent, Kure It Cancer Research receives 30 percent, and the individual facility chooses a local or national charity to receive the remaining 60 percent.

For Watkins, who also founded Storage Treasures to help promote self storage auctions across the country, having the support of StorageMart is great, but so, too is the choice of Women In Need, Inc. StorageMart is a terrific company with great leadership. It is no surprise to us that a special charity like Women In Need would be their top choice since StorageMart is such a progressive, giving organization. Vetted International Adds Support to Government Contractors with DNA Collection, Storage and Analysis

Vetted International, Ltd. (http://www.vetted-intl.com) continues its support of the Department of Defense by providing services to US contractors in the collection and storage of DNA.

Generally, all contractor personnel who support U.S. Forces in contingency operations are required to collect and store DNA for the period for which an employee is deployed overseas in support of contingency operations according to the MOD 11 to the USCENTCOM Individual Protection and Individual-Unit Deployment Policy. Medical personnel, both employed and contracted by Vetted International, collect DNA specimen samples for use in identification of human remains if needed.

A bloodstain DNA card specimen has proven itself far superior to previous identification methods, says Brenda Williams RN, MPH of Vetted Corporate Headquarters. The process used by Vetted International is the preferred method of casualty identification by the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs. Furthermore, having a DNA sample on file is a way for a company to be proactive and account for their personnel in case disaster strikes. It is also a way to assist the families of deployed personnel in healing and closure.

DNA is stored as part of the medical record inside a secure vault protected by state of the art security systems, environmental controls, and strict access control policies. US citizen specimens are stored in the Vetted International DNA Bank or are transported directly to the Armed Forces Repository Specimen Sample for Identification of Remains (AFRSSIR). Contrary to the AFRSSIR, non-US citizen contractors can have their DNA stored in the Vetted International DNA Bank as well as US citizens.

Vetted International is currently collecting DNA worldwide while storing and conducting analysis in the United States. DNA is private and personal and Vetted International understands the complex legal and ethical guidelines associated with collecting and storing DNA. Protecting an individuals health record, a persons DNA sample and their privacy is of paramount importance, added Ashley Nicholson, the Technical Services Case Manager at Vetted Corporate Headquarters. Vetted Internationals staff is fully HIPAA compliant and only authorized individuals have access to the bank. The DNA will never be used for any other purpose than identification of remains and the sample can be destroyed after exiting the theater per the donors request.
